A free AI doctor for new parents, awake when you are
Last updated October 18, 2026.
New parents live at 3am, and so does this. Pymander is a free AI doctor by text message for your own care: no appointment, no copay, no waiting room with a baby.
Pymander is a free AI doctor that new parents reach by text message, at whatever hour the question shows up. You text your number. A trained human triage responder replies in the same thread in minutes, and an AI consultation begins there: a back-and-forth in plain English that takes your history, asks what it needs to, and tells you what it thinks and what it suggests. When a symptom needs an exam, imaging, or a lab test, it says so plainly. It never bills anyone. It is a medical AI system, not a licensed doctor, and it cannot prescribe or order tests. It is for adults 18 and over, which means it is for you, not the baby: children need a pediatrician, and a fever in a baby under 3 months is an emergency. In an emergency, call 911 or go to an emergency room.

The short version: it answers your own health questions at the hours new parents keep, from bed, without an appointment. The baby's care belongs to the pediatrician; your care tends to slip, and this is the easy way back in.
Why new parents use it
3am is a normal hour now. Postpartum questions, a cough you cannot shake, the headache from four hours of sleep: they all arrive when nothing is open. The consult is 24/7, and the thread is there in the morning either way.
Your own care slips to the bottom of the list. New parents book the pediatrician and skip themselves. A consult from bed, in minutes, with no copay and no logistics, is the difference between your symptoms getting looked at and getting lived with.
A straight answer beats a forum. The internet at 2am is a worst-case generator. The consult takes your actual history, asks follow-up questions, and gives you a calibrated answer, including the honest "this can wait until morning, here is what to watch for."
What you get and what you do not get
| You get | You do not get |
|---|---|
| A full consult by text: what this is likely to be, how worried to be, and what to do next | Prescriptions (they legally require a licensed clinician) |
| A red-flag check on every consult, with direct escalation when something needs emergency or same-day care | A formal diagnosis or care for your baby or child |
| Memory between visits: your history carries forward, so each consult starts where the last one ended | Labs or imaging orders (planned, with licensed clinicians reviewing) |
| A care note you can keep or share, viewable through a signed link | Emergency care itself. In an emergency, call 911 first |
How a consult works
1. Text +1 (689) 528-6964. Say what is going on in your own words. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.
2. Answer a few questions. The AI doctor takes a real history the way a physician does, asking the one question that best discriminates between the possibilities it is weighing.
3. Get your assessment and plan. What it most likely is, what to do tonight, what to watch for, and whether you need a human doctor, urgently or not. Your care note arrives as a link you can keep or share.
For you, not the baby
Pymander is for adults 18 and over, full stop. Babies and children need a pediatrician, and anything worrying in a newborn deserves a call to yours. A fever of 100.4 F or higher in a baby under 3 months is an emergency: go to the emergency room. What Pymander is for is you: the recovery questions, the "is this normal," the symptoms you have been ignoring because the baby comes first. Parents get sick too, and a free 2am consult is built for exactly that.
The published evidence
Pymander shows its homework. The clinical AI scored 98.2% on the USMLE, the exam human doctors take, across two independent, fully logged runs of the official sample examinations (the evals page, head-to-head methodology, benchmark working paper). On HealthBench Hard, an open-ended clinical-conversation benchmark, Pymander ran a sealed, pre-registered evaluation of 1,000 conversations and scored a mean of 0.3331 (N=999), top five against every published HealthBench Hard result. The protocol, generations, and judge grades are public and rerunnable at zenodo.org/records/22714759.
Safety routing is deterministic: a separate pipeline, not the model alone, decides when a situation escalates, and the architecture is published in full in the safety architecture working paper. It was evaluated on a 300-case red-flag suite, scoring 1.0 on the 60-case gate sample with zero under-escalation on the false-reassurance probe.

Common questions
Can I ask about my baby?
No. Pymander is for adults 18 and over, and babies and children need a pediatrician who can examine them. For anything worrying in a newborn, call your pediatrician; a fever of 100.4 F or higher in a baby under 3 months means the emergency room. The consult is for your own health, which is usually the care that gets skipped.
Is it really available in the middle of the night?
Yes. The consult is 24/7, and a trained human triage responder replies in the same thread in minutes, day or night. That is the whole point for new parents: your questions do not keep business hours, and the honest "this can wait until morning" answer is worth having at 3am.
I am recovering from birth. Can it help with postpartum questions?
It can talk through what you are experiencing, what is commonly part of recovery, and which warning signs mean you should be seen urgently. It cannot examine you, so anything it flags as needing an exam should go to your OB or midwife. Postpartum complications are real and time-sensitive; when the consult says get seen, get seen.
What if I am on medication while breastfeeding?
Bring the question to the consult and it will give you the general picture, but decisions about medications while breastfeeding should be confirmed with your doctor, your baby's pediatrician, or a pharmacist, because they depend on the specific drug and dose. The consult will say so rather than guess.
Can it prescribe anything?
No. Pymander cannot prescribe medication, order labs or imaging, or diagnose formally, because it is a medical AI system, not a licensed doctor. When your situation needs those, the consult tells you plainly what kind of visit can provide them.
Pymander is not a replacement for a physician and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
