Can I get a sports physical online?
Last updated September 3, 2026.
Mostly no - the AAP sports physical requires a hands-on heart, lung, and joint exam, so clearance forms need an in-person clinician. Online visits can only cover the history and prep.
What to do
- Fill out the history form ahead - past injuries, fainting, heart symptoms, family history.
- Book a real exam - heart, lungs, blood pressure, vision, and joints must be checked in person.
- Go about 6 weeks before the season - leaves time to follow up on anything flagged.
- Use your regular pediatrician if possible - the AAP prefers the medical home that knows the athlete.
