How long does Delafloxacin Injection stay in your system?
Last updated September 7, 2026.
Delafloxacin injection has an elimination half-life of roughly 3.7 hours, so most of a dose is out of your body within about 24 hours of your last infusion. Kidney function is the main thing that changes that number, since most of the drug leaves through your urine and the rest through stool. If your kidney function is reduced, both the antibiotic and the SBECD carrier used in the IV form clear more slowly, which is why doses are adjusted or the tablet form is used instead. Drug levels reach a steady state within the first day or two of treatment, and a full course usually runs 5 to 14 days depending on the infection. Keep taking or receiving every scheduled dose even after you feel better, and drink fluids normally unless your care team has restricted them. Some fluoroquinolone side effects involving tendons, nerves, or mood can begin or continue after the drug itself has cleared.
What to do
- Share your kidney numbers: Tell your clinician your most recent eGFR or creatinine, since that drives dose adjustments and how fast the drug clears.
- Finish the course: Complete every scheduled dose even if symptoms fade after two or three days, unless your clinician stops it.
- Space out minerals: If you switch to tablets, separate them from antacids, calcium, iron, zinc, and multivitamins by several hours so absorption is not blocked.
- Watch tendons and nerves: Report new heel, shoulder, or ankle pain, numbness, tingling, or sudden anxiety or confusion right away, during or after treatment.
- Report ongoing diarrhea: Watery or bloody diarrhea during or in the weeks after treatment needs prompt medical review rather than an anti-diarrhea medicine.
- Ask before stopping early: If side effects push you to quit, call your clinician first so a different antibiotic can replace it.
