The hoarseness is not contagious - laryngitis is an inflamed voice box. But the virus that usually causes it is. What to do

- Hydrate and humidify. Moisture is the whole environment the cords want.
- Use cold precautions if a virus is in the picture. The household can still catch the triggering virus.
- Escalate the long course. Hoarseness past two weeks, breathing trouble, or blood: see a doctor.
