What are the side effects of Abaloparatide Injection?
Last updated September 6, 2026.
**Most side effects of abaloparatide (Tymlos) are mild and short lived: dizziness, nausea, headache, a fast or pounding heartbeat, tiredness, and redness or swelling where you inject.** Which ones you notice depends on your blood pressure, when you inject, and whether you also take calcium and vitamin D. Dizziness and a racing heartbeat usually show up within about four hours of a dose and often ease over the first few months of treatment. Rotating to a different spot on your abdomen each day and letting the pen sit out of the refrigerator before injecting cuts down on stinging and redness. Keep the pen refrigerated until the first use, then store it at room temperature and discard it 30 days after that first injection. Tell your clinician if you have had radiation to your bones, a bone cancer, or high blood calcium, because abaloparatide may not be a good fit.
What to do
- Dose sitting down: Give the first several injections while seated or lying down, and stand up slowly afterward until you know how it affects you.
- Rotate the site: Inject into a different spot on your lower abdomen each day and skip areas that are tender, bruised, or hard.
- Time it for comfort: If dizziness or nausea bothers you, ask your clinician about injecting at a time of day when you can rest for an hour or two.
- Watch your calcium: Report ongoing constipation, unusual thirst, frequent urination, or muscle weakness, since these can signal calcium building up.
- Handle the pen right: Refrigerate it before first use, then keep it at room temperature and throw it away 30 days after your first injection.
- Plan the full course: Ask your clinician how long you should stay on it and what medicine follows, because bone density gains fade once you stop.
