What does it mean if my eye twitches?
Last updated September 3, 2026.
Almost always benign eyelid myokymia from fatigue, caffeine, stress, or screen strain - passes in days to weeks. Twitching that closes the eye, spreads, or lasts past 3 weeks needs an exam.
What to do
- Sleep and cut caffeine first - the top two triggers, per NEI.
- Lubricate dry eyes - artificial tears calm the surface irritation.
- Take real screen breaks - every 20 minutes, look far away.
- Get seen if it closes the eye or spreads - or lasts past three weeks.
