Why am I so tired on my period?
Last updated September 3, 2026.
Period fatigue is hormone lows plus iron loss plus broken sleep - normal when mild and short-lived. Crushing fatigue with heavy bleeding deserves an iron and blood count test; anemia is common and fixable.
What to do
- Keep moving lightly - exercise reliably lifts period fatigue.
- Eat for iron - meat, beans, spinach, with vitamin C, per NHLBI guidance.
- Protect sleep that week - cramps and sweats already tax it.
- Test crushing or persistent fatigue - blood count and ferritin, especially with heavy flow.
