Why do I still have pain weeks after a C-section?
Last updated September 3, 2026.
C-section pain should fade week by week over 6-8 weeks. Worsening pain, a red hot leaking incision, fever, foul discharge, or calf or chest pain: call your provider promptly.
What to do
- Track the trend - better each week is healing, per NHS recovery guidance.
- Stay ahead of pain, keep walking - movement aids healing.
- No heavy lifting, careful driving call - usually around six weeks.
- Call for the wound and fever signs - red, hot, leaking, 100.4 F or higher.
