Why does my pill look different than last refill?

Last updated September 3, 2026.

The pharmacy almost certainly switched generic manufacturers. The active ingredient and strength stay the same, but the look changes because trademark law forbids a generic from copying the brand-name pill's appearance - and pharmacies change suppliers based on price and availability. Still, never take a pill you cannot match to your prescription: check the bottle label for a manufacturer note, then confirm with the pharmacist if anything is unclear.
