- Serious - call your doctor immediately or get emergency care: rash, hives, or itching; hoarseness, wheezing, trouble swallowing or breathing, or swelling of the throat, tongue, or lips (the penicillin-allergy emergency); joint pain; a return of fever, sore throat, chills, or other infection signs; and severe watery or bloody diarrhea, with or without fever and cramps, up to 2 months or more after treatment.
Who should not take it?
Anyone with a past penicillin reaction - tell your doctor and pharmacist exactly what happened and what symptoms you had. Flag allergies, asthma, hay fever, and kidney disease, and mention current nausea or vomiting before starting, since it can affect absorption. If you become pregnant, call your doctor.

Why do I have to finish penicillin for strep throat when I feel fine?
Because strep is the infection with a sequel.
