Do pore strips work?

Last updated September 3, 2026.

They do exactly what you see - pull the tops off surface plugs - and nothing more. Most of what strips remove is the tip of sebaceous filaments: normal oil channels Cleveland Clinic describes as healthy skin anatomy, not blackheads, and they refill within days. Strips do not shrink pores (size is genetics, oil output, and age), do not reach deep blackheads, and can irritate or break capillaries with aggressive use. Real pore management: retinoids for turnover, salicylic acid inside the pore, sunscreen for the collagen around it. Pymander's escalation routing is built and tested specifically for this class of decision; see the safety architecture working paper.
