What does a lump behind my ear mean?

Usually a reactive lymph node from a nearby ear or scalp issue, or a benign skin cyst. Hard, fixed, growing, or 4+ weeks means get it checked; fever with ear pain and swelling is urgent.
What to do
- Check for nearby causes - ear infection, scalp irritation, or a fresh piercing explain most.
- Watch a tender movable lump a few weeks - reactive nodes shrink on their own.
- Get red, warm, painful lumps seen - infected cysts sometimes need drainage.
- Urgent care for ear pushed outward with fever - that is the mastoiditis pattern.
