Why can't I see my test results right away?

Last updated September 3, 2026.

Mostly plumbing and review: the lab verifies (hours to days), the result files, the clinician reviews, the system releases - and the Cures Act requires prompt release, so most results land within days, sometimes before your doctor has seen them. That last part explains the occasional alarming result without context - the known downside of transparency. If one seems stuck: confirm the test is actually resulted (cultures and pathology take days by nature), give it a few days, then call the ordering office - "is my result in and can it be released" is a normal question. Persistent blocking is reportable to ONC.
