Why do I get hip pain during pregnancy?
Last updated September 3, 2026.
Pregnancy hip pain is relaxin-loosened pelvic joints plus shifted posture - common and manageable with pillows, support belts, and physio. Pain with bleeding, fever, early contractions, or numbness: call your provider.
What to do
- Pillow between knees and ankles - keeps hips level in side sleep.
- Unload the pelvis - support belt, avoid one-leg standing and heavy bags.
- Ask for physio if walking or sleep suffers - the NHS recommends targeted exercises.
- Call for bleeding, fever, early contractions, or numbness - those are not hip pain.
